Error logging: my students record their errors in a spreadsheet and write about what they did and what they'll do differently next time. The second part is crucial, in that I encourage them to name a concrete action they can take (look for independent clauses when an answer choice includes an independent clause separator) as opposed to general bromides (be more careful...read closely). After three practice tests, they can see patterns and focus on the 3-4 concrete actions they can take during practice and official tests. With ideal students, they've got 3-4 phrases to jot down on their scratch paper at the start of the test so they have a visual of what they're going to do differently. We visit the log regularly to review their work or to redo questions missed so they can practice the action they said they would take.

That's a good one. My students hate it, so I've directed energy elsewhere, but maybe I should give it another shot.

It works really well with motivated students for sure, but I'm amazed at how jazzed students at any motivation level get when they reattempt questions and get them right at any motivation level.
